A General Overview of Charitable Trusts for the Probate Practitioner
Assistant Attorney General Brien Winfield Heckman serves as the Charitable Trust Attorney for the Corporate Oversight Division of the Michigan Department of Attorney General. Brien has extensive experience with the Nonprofit Corporations Act, the Charitable Organizations and Solicitations Act, the Dissolution of Charitable Purpose Corporations Act, the Uniform Prudent Management of Institutional Funds Act, the Charitable Trustees Powers Act, and the Estates and Protected Individuals Code.
He chairs the Michigan Nonprofit Council for Charitable Trusts (MNCCT), which is an advisory group formed by the Michigan Nonprofit Association and the Council of Michigan Foundations. The MNCCT provides expertise and guidance to the Attorney General on issues related to charities and charitable giving.
